In response to 20th October article by Kenan Malik: Pumping the unemployed with weight-loss drugs echoes Victorian attitudes to the poor

The panacea administered for today's ailments is invariably the quick, synthetic option - a jab here, a pill there. To treat the cause of obesity, as opposed to the symptom, is to invest in job creation, public services, infrastructure, and welfare. Only then will obesity be reduced in the long term.
