In response to 29th September article by Catherine Bennett: Any ice-age telepaths out there? Please explain why Netflix is revisiting Ancient Apocalypse
To Graham Hancock's insistence that "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence", I would say that, likewise, "absence of evidence is not evidence of presence". The "personal vendetta" to which Hancock claims to be a victim is a misrepresentation of the peer-review process. It is how science checks and adjusts itself. In an attempt to sidestep the vigour of the scientific method, Hancock claims - on the Joe Rogan podcast - he is merely a journalist, whose job it is to investigate the possibility of a lost, ancient civilisation. Well, even against journalistic standards he flounders, by failing to explicitly substantiate the events on which he reports. Netflix can be forgiven for commissioning such a series, so long as it is cast as entertainment, as opposed to a work of any academic value.
