Whatever you make of the Home Secretary's proscription of Palestine Action, here is an example of how significant political disagreement - at the national level - can be hashed out.
In this Sunday's issue of The Observer (Orwell's enemy of nonsense) the op-eds of Yvette Cooper and Huda Ammori, the founder of Palestine Action, appear side by side; Cooper justifying her crackdown on PA by appealing to "disturbing" intelligence she has received, and Ammori arguing PA is a peaceful protest movement...In the coming weeks, it is likely the government will bow to pressure from UK rights groups and decriminalise PA protests.
Once again textbook journalism from The Observer - a kind we must grip tightly and be grateful to have the liberty to consume. A glance at the RSF World Press Freedom Index 2025 tells us we shouldn't take this for granted - not even in the West.
