I am delighted to announce that I have been invited to sit on the Council of the Chartered Institute of Journalists (CIoJ).
In this position, it is my aim to help drive the various working groups of the Institute, which look to support journalists’ interests; promote industry standards and ethics; and safeguard press freedoms. As a financial and technology journalist – often writing about the applications of AI – I hope the knowledge I have accumulated can support the Institute in navigating the challenges and opportunities facing the media landscape today.
The CIoJ is the oldest professional body for journalists in the world. It was founded in 1884 and six years later was granted its Royal Charter by Queen Victoria, to protect and serve those employed in the field of journalism. The Institute combines the role of a professional society with that of a trade union.
The Institute’s cause is one that I am fiercely passionate about, and I am humbled to contribute to its work. Thank you to the existing members of the CIoJ Council for co-opting me.
