In response to 6th September article by Dan Sabbagh: West’s support for missile strikes on Russian forces is waning – Zelensky

Perhaps the reason support is lacking for Ukrainian strikes on Russian forces is not down to fears of escalation. After all, the CIA Chief – among others – is confident the nuclear threat is entirely hollow. It’s time to acknowledge that a protraction of Russia’s war in Ukraine is more likely to preserve the current global power balance, than upset it. Put differently, the more of Russia’s equipment and personnel depleted in Ukraine, the less likely it is to be a military threat to NATO in the mid-term. If Ukraine were to use Anglo-French Storm Shadow missiles on internationally recognised Russian territory – especially against military installations – peace talks would be expedited and Putin would emerge militarily stronger than if they were deferred.
